La Tortajada advertises Gold Saba. La Bella Tortajada, (sometimes La Bella Tortojada), born Consuelo Tamayo Hernández (1865-1957), made her debut as an actress in Paris at the age of 15 with instant success. She was born in Santa Fe, Granada and took as her artistic name, that of her artistic director, Ramón Tortajada, whom she married at the tender age of 14. The elegance and style of her dance combined with her graceful Grenadine speech conquered an adoring audience and she became perhaps the first international Spanish star, performing in the greatest theatres of Europe, North America and even South Africa, and being honoured by both Kaiser William II and Czar Nicholas II. However she rarely acted in Spain. Such was her fame that the famous French female impersonator M. R. Bertin included her in his act and postcards were issued. After some thirty years of success, she retired to Granada, dying in Santa Fe aged 90.
