A detail of the choir stalls. "The canopies of the stalls of the upper row are by the German sculptors, Michael Loker and Johan Friedrich (1487). The work is most excellent. The pinacles and canopies were pronounced faulty by the chapter, who did not pay the sculptor the full amount agreed on. The lower row was sculptured by Matias Bonafé in 1483. In the agreement passed between him and the chapter, a curious clause occurs, by which the sculptor was forbidden to introduce images,figures, or beasts of any kind, and to limit himself to the leafy ornamentation."
